In this seminar, Dr. Richard Boothby focuses on the concept of Das Ding, as the unknown thing, the core of the unconscious, or the incomprehensible black hole beyond our capacities for cognition. Boothby argues that the Das Ding is a central notion of Lacanian psychoanalysis, and a concept that should be rehabilitated and situated on the same level of importance as Lacan’s objet petit a, specifically because this notion has crucial importance for developing a general theory of religion.
