DIGITAL LITERACY AND CRITICAL MEDIA THEORY VIA MCLUHAN (w/ David McKerracher and Ann Snelgrove)

In this conversation with David McKerracher and Ann Snelgrove we discuss Theory Underground’s course on digital literacy and critical media theory as inspired by a paper from Marshall McLuhan. We use this paper as an orientation point to explore McLuhan’s basic thesis that all media exert a compelling influence on man and society, the general philosophy of technology, McLuhan’s critics, the difference between visual and acoustic space, and how to think about our personal relationship to devices in an increasingly networked age.
