Zizek Lectures
The central hub for reflections on the immortal (undead) thought of philosopher Slavoj Zizek.
The Zizek Lecture series is hosted by Philosophy Portal.
Commitment to a Living Giant
Slavoj Zizek is a living philosophical giant whose work has not only shaped the future direction of philosophical theory and thought in the continental tradition, but has had an outsized impact on cultural and psychoanalytic theory, radical theological thought, emancipatory political theory, as well as general scientific thought. His core works span four decades of sustained and consistent output, in and relevant to both academic and popular circles, a truly unprecedented achievement in and for our time.
A Space to Think the Real
Our work finds it necessary to open spaces that more actively and honestly engage this work in a rigorous way, and provide contexts to discuss its impact on culture and civilisation. Towards this aim the Zizek Lecture series hosts leading theorists inspired by the philosophy of Slavoj Zizek in order to provide foundational analysis of either core concepts, essential books and articles, or general themes relevant to a deepening understanding of Zizek’s work. The lecture series is organised in annual cycles structured by two semesters, a Fall semester with monthly lectures from September to December, and a Spring semester with monthly lectures from March to June.

Four Pillars of Philosophy Portal
Slavoj Zizek’s work has been established as the main motivation and focus inspiring the course work and network at Philosophy Portal. Zizek’s philosophy is the underlying reason why Philosophy Portal has been committed to developing a curriculum orbiting the Hegelo-Marxist orientation of philosophy, Freud and Lacan’s contributions to modern psychoanalysis, as well as engagement with contemporary theological issues from a Christian Atheist perspective, and contemporary political issues from a Conservative Communist perspective.
The Zizek Lectures are organised around Philosophy Portal’s “Four Pillars” which form a logical quadruplicity:
Continental Philosophy
Psychoanalytic Theory
Emancipatory Politics
Radical Theology
Core concepts, books, themes
The dense work of Slavoj Zizek spans a breathtaking diversity of concepts, books and themes. This lecture series strives to examine this diversity from the perspective of a singular wound, in the process opening up new avenues for thought about Zizek’s work that are currently under-discussed or overlooked in superficial analysis of his contributions to thought. The current focus includes work oriented towards:
Hegelian dialectics and Lacanian psychoanalysis
Religion and specifically the dialectics of Christianity and Atheism
Zizek’s relation to other leading philosophical minds of the late 20th/early 21st century
The milieu of Lacanian psychoanalysis and Deleuzian philosophy
Progressive and conservative politics in neoliberal capitalism/post-Cold War politics
Quantum physics and its implications for philosophy of mind and history
