ROSY CROSS

A TWO-MONTH EXPLORATION OF CONTEMPORARY THEOPOLITICS

"The rose in the cross of the present" is a well-known line used by philosopher G.W.F. Hegel in his political philosophy, Philosophy of Right.  This seminar series takes inspiration from this line in order to develop a "theopolitical conversation", structured in two sections, one political and one theological, and inspired by both Hegel's Philosophy of Right as well as the dialectical concept of Christian Atheism. All eight seminars are led by authors of an anthology — Rosy Cross: Question of Right and Truth of Christianity — connected to this series. The political section, Question of Right, will feature lectures and conversations with Cadell Last, Dimitri Crooijmans, Quinn Whelehan, and Eliot Rosenstock; and the theological section, Truth of Christianity, will feature lectures and conversations with Cadell Last, Daniel L. Garner, Cleo Kearns, and Daniel Coughlan.

Each session will give a different window into questions of right and the truth of Christianity, inspired by writings from the anthology, available for all who register.

Signing up gives you access to live sessions and lifetime access to recordings.

Cadell Last

Cadell Last is the creator/founder of Philosophy Portal, and author of Global Brain Singularity, Systems and Subjects, Real Speculations, and more. His work is dedicated to and inspired by the human evolution, technological singularity, the Zizekian moment of philosophy, and his teaching reflects core texts in continental philosophy and psychoanalysis, with the aim of expanding the general understanding of this tradition, as well as embedding it in experiments with online education and community.

Dimitri Crooijmans

Dimitri Crooijmans is a philosopher, writer, and creator of Actual Spirit, a blog and podcast dedicated to spirit reconciling itself with itself. His writings focus on spirit’s phenomena: philosophy, fiction, and poetic rhetorica, towards thought that overreaches to reach over, heal. He has published in several Philosophy Portal anthologies, including “The Work of Love” in Logic for the Global Brain, “What Doesn’t Work” in Writing For (a) First Cause, and “Dialectical Materialism at War” in Rosy Cross.

Quinn Whelehan

Quinn Whelehan is a philosopher, writer, and aspiring psychoanalyst with an interest in Buddhism, Christianity, Hegelianism, and Freudo-Lacanian psychoanalysis. His writings at Philosophy Portal have explored the tension between Nāgārjuna’s philosophy, Mahayana Buddhism and Hegelian philosophy and the broader movement of German Idealism (in: Enter the Alien, Logic for the Global Brain), Nietzshe’s notion of amor fati (in: Abyssal Arrows), as well as politics of crisis/contradiction (in: Rosy Cross).

Eliot Rosenstock

Eliot Rosenstock is a psychotherapist and writer working from the notion of Hyperpsychology. He is the author of Zizek in the Clinic, which explores a Zizekian lens for clinical work, and The Ego and its Hyperstate, which focuses on a dialectical notion of self-interest. His work in Rosy Cross seeks to critique Landian post-humanism, and also develop a hypermodern notion of the whole.

Daniel L. Garner

Daniel L. Garner of O.G. Rose spent several years working collaboratively with other artists at Eunoia, a creative community. Now Rose helped develop, and now lives on a farm, manages a wedding venue named Mead Lake Lodge, and teaches piano using visuals from the DLG Pattern Method. A finalist for the UNO Press Lab Prize and Pushcart Nominee, Rose’s creative works appear at The Write Launch, Iowa Review, Burningword, Broken Pencil, and elsewhere, with published works on Amazon.

Cleo Kearns

Cleo Kearns is a scholar, teacher and writer in philosophy, religion, anthropology and cultural studies. She is currently working on the engagement of continental philosophy with the texts of the Abrahamic scriptures. She is also the author The Virgin Mary, Monotheism and Sacrifice and T.S. Eliot and Indic Traditions. Her work for the Rosy Cross focuses on Christian Atheism and the Desiring God of Monotheism.

Daniel Coughlan

Daniel Coughlan is an emerging theologian committed to the way of Christ, with an interest in philosophy, tantra, spirituality and breathework, and creating through his HoleyCow Project. His work operates in the tensions of theology, politics and history, specifically within the context of South Africa, and its struggles with both truth, reconciliation, in regards the legacy of apartheid and the contradictions of being a “rainbow nation”.

Each session focuses on a core aspect of modern politics or theology, and is connected to an extended reflection in the Rosy Cross anthology.
